Kalgoorlie Visitor Centre
The Kalgoorlie Visitor Centre, the proud winner of the 2003 Goldfields Business Awards – Tourism Category provides a rare insight into the work of one of Australia’s truly legendary organisations.
We urge you to come and discover our remarkable story for yourself…
Our friendly tour guide will take you on an inspiring journey, beginning with the life of the contemporary ‘Flying Doctor’, heading back through the chronicles of our history, to the colourful characters of years gone by. The Kalgoorlie Visitor Centre commemorates the fierce determination of those early pioneers intent on enhancing the lot of people living and travelling in Western Australia’s rugged outback. Some 75 years later and called upon more than ever before, a tour through the working base reveals that the dedication of the early days has not diminished with time. Don’t pass up the opportunity to learn for yourself a little about one of Australia’s most famous services, past and present.
You can take home a memento of your visit too; our charming gift shop is full of stylish branded clothing, gifts and souvenirs. All proceeds from your purchase will be used to keep the doctor flying so your support is very much appreciated.

School Visits
We encourage bookings from school groups – pre-primary through to tertiary. There is no better way to bring the classroom studies to life than experiencing first hand a living tutorial. Students will leave the Kalgoorlie Visitors Centre with an understanding of John Flynn’s amazing accomplishment in bringing together radio, medicine and aviation to overcome the ‘tyranny of distance’ the vast and remote outback presented its inhabitants early last century.
